This is a course prescribed by the Maine State Board of Nursing and adheres to the Maine State Nursing Practice Act, Chapter 5.  It is for Certified Nursing Assistants who have completed one or more years of full-time employment as a CNA and are listed as active and in good standing on the Maine State Registry of Certified Nursing Assistants.

The purpose of the course is to teach experienced CNA’s to administer non-injectable medications to patients who are 4 years of age and older, performed under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in a long-term care facility, state mental health institution, county jail, state correctional facility, or assistive living setting.

CRMA - Certified Residential Medication Aide

The purpose of the Certified Residential Medication Aide course is to provide training for professionals working in state certified residential care facilities. The course covers State of Maine regulations, residential facility policies, basic anatomy and physiology of the human body.

Participants will discuss common medications in the major drug classes, common side effects of medication and the individual’s response to medication side effects.

Participants will learn safe medication administration procedures, vital signs, transcribing physicians’ orders, and how to document on a MAR (Medication Administration Record).

Upon completion of this 40-hour medication course participants will be able to administer medications in accordance with Maine’s regulation.

Under the guidance of an RN Educator, each participant will be required to complete a clinical Medication Administration “medication pass” on 3 different residents to be eligible for certification.

Completed application (click here) due by Friday, October 25, 2019 

Required assessment tests taken on Nov. 4 at 3pm and Dec. 2 at 3pm.  These assessments will be held at Skowhegan Area High School, Adult Education.

Payment plan available: $100 deposit plus 4 payments of $56.25, paid weekly.

Introduction to Photography

What is the rule of thirds? Why are my images boring? Why does my friend take the same picture as I do and her picture looks better? Bring your camera to class and learn how to make a great image rather than simply take a photograph. We will focus on what constitutes a great image and how to think about composition, lighting and subject matter. We will compare and contrast work by contemporary artists in order to understand how to develop our own unique statements as photographers.

Bring your digital camera or portable device with camera to this workshop.

Maine Driving Dynamics

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is aimed to improve a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities. This five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. Our goal is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle-related crashes.

A student who completes the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. It may take up to 2 weeks for processing.

Portraiture

You will need to bring a DSLR with a flash (on camera is fine) to class for this exciting workshop in portraiture.

We will explore studio lighting, and the various methods of setting up lighting scenarios. There will be strobes and flash units available and the class will fully participate in making their own portraits. Enter the exciting world of portraiture and learn to take your own family portraits, senior pictures or even capture images of your beloved family pet.
