Ten-Minute Block Quilt - Session One

Class will be held online using Zoom.

This class teaches quilters how to use the 10-minute block technique. A class for those with some previous quilting experience, participants must know how to sew a 1/4” seam and must have a home machine. You will be amazed by how fast the quilt goes together—a great looking finished product in relatively no time at all!

Upon registration, instructor will email students regarding needed supplies. The estimated cost of these supplies will be $50.

Writing Your Own Short Story

Are you imaginative? Do you have a story you've been wanting to tell but have not found the time or summoned the desire to really give it a try?  Our beginner class might be the place for you to discover your own writing process in a completely supportive and positive environment.

This creative writing class, focusing on the basics of short story writing, will feature two different learning formats:

  • Teacher-led group meetings once a week via Zoom (two-hour session), featuring focus exercises in writing descriptively, dialogue and narrative voice.
  • Peer-editing and revising on Google Docs after class (as many hours as you like), featuring sharing of your work with a writing partner to learn how to give and recieve positive critcism and basic editing.

The goal for all participants is a completed story no more than 20 pages long.  You can begin a new story, continue an old one, or work to revise one you've written before  Various genres are acceptable, but flexibility will be appreciated when we meet to choose writing partners.  

Online access and a personal Google Account are required.

Bee Keeping for Beginners

This class will educate those interested in getting involved with bees.  Lessons will include assembling bee keeping equipment, installing a "nuc" (nucleus colony), controlling swarming, and dealing with varroa mites.

Other topics - such as how and when to harvest honey, how to split hives, and how to winterize - will be covered.

On the first night of class, the instructor will collect $55 from each participant to cover the cost of the textbook and for a one-year membership to the Somerset Bee Keepers Club.  Assignment of a mentor will be available.

A Writer's Workshop

Participants will write and receive feedback and together we will examine successful writers’ strategies and general tricks of the trade. And most of all, we will discover that writing can be fun!

Quilt Binding

A Survey of the Old Testament

Class will be held online using ZOOM.

Are you interested in some stimulating conversation? Would you like to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible? Come join us as we will delve into the Old Testament!

In this six-week course, participants will explore parts of the Old Testament, also known as the first convenant. The class includes an introduction to the books in the Old Testament, the Ten Commandments, the major and minor prophents, and several major historical events. We will also examine a few well-known Bible stories and learn more about the prophets involved.

At the end of the course, students will walk away with a basic knowledge of the Old Testament without being steered into a specific denomination.

To eliminate confusion about translations, the King Jame Bible is the translation that will be used in this course.
