Writing Your Own Short Story

with Paul Deagle

Class has begun

Are you imaginative? Do you have a story you've been wanting to tell but have not found the time or summoned the desire to really give it a try?  Our beginner class might be the place for you to discover your own writing process in a completely supportive and positive environment.

This creative writing class, focusing on the basics of short story writing, will feature two different learning formats:

  • Teacher-led group meetings once a week via Zoom (two-hour session), featuring focus exercises in writing descriptively, dialogue and narrative voice.
  • Peer-editing and revising on Google Docs after class (as many hours as you like), featuring sharing of your work with a writing partner to learn how to give and recieve positive critcism and basic editing.

The goal for all participants is a completed story no more than 20 pages long.  You can begin a new story, continue an old one, or work to revise one you've written before  Various genres are acceptable, but flexibility will be appreciated when we meet to choose writing partners.

Online access and a personal Google Account are required.
